Some thoughts and discussions from me.

Hi guys!

How was your weekend? Did you live it up? Take it easy? I’d have to say I did a little of both. I was happy to hear Shane say on Friday night that he just wanted to stay in and relax, because I wanted that exact same thing.

We cooked pizzas, had some wine, and watched a good few episodes of Arrested Development. It reminded me that I really do like to stay in on the weekend every once in a while. I woke up on Saturday feeling so rested and refreshed!

That’s a good thing, because Saturday was action PACKED. I prepared for it with some nourishing breakfast:

2 pastured eggs, Applegate bacon, spinach + sweet potatoes, a piece of toast with coconut oil, and then I topped everything with half an avocado. It was deliciously filling. About an hour after eating, Shane and I walked over to the park to boot camp where I taught a 45 minute strength-focused class. Apparently my boot campers needed it, because consensus was – it was butt-kicking! Punch (PS – I am now obsessed with emoticons. I recently found a secret keyboard on my iPhone for cute emoticons, so if you follow me on instagram, or text with me, you’ve been warned Winking smile heh)

Anyway, after boot camp, Shane and I packed up the SUV for a day out west. We first headed to Lauren and Greg’s to meet them, where we then continued out i70 toward Loveland Pass.

Our mission: hike to the summit of Loveland Pass.

Mission accomplished.

OK, you guys. So this is the same hike that I did with Lauren and Brie a few weeks ago, but today was incredibly more difficult because A.) the girls stopped for pictures way more often and B.) we didn’t make it to the top then. This time, the guys lead the pack (Lauren and I joke that Shane and Greg are mountain goats) and we took far fewer breaks.

One of our breaks involved the start of a snow ball fight Winking smile haha

The fitness nerd in me kept thinking about how much of an anaerobic workout we were getting. We would hike (at a very steep angle) for about 2 minutes, and my HR would reach at least 188-190, I’m sure (I have a high max HR for my age) and then we’d have to stop – and breathe – for about 30 seconds before continuing that cycle. Between the incline and the lack of oxygen at 13,000 feet above sea level, this hike was some SERIOUS HIIT training.

And just as I was reaching the top, catching my breath, the views simply took my breath right away again.

Shane and Greg, scoping out the sights

And then after shuffling/running/falling/scrambling back down the mountain, we all agreed that beer and burgers had never sounded better. Our plan was to hit up Breckinridge for just that.

Cheers!

But then I saw the fish tacos on the menu, and after asking the waiter what I should get (as I do) between the bacon guacamole cheeseburger or the fish tacos, I decided on the latter.

Good decision. We also split a big bowl of fries.

Shennanigans continued at Breckinridge Brewery, a little shopping, and wine tasting.

What. A. (fabulous) Day.

Once we got back to town and started heading back toward our house, Shane and I commented on how we both felt beat, dehydrated, and exhausted. We agreed that tonight would surely be spent relaxing inside our home as well. But then somehow we got convinced by our friends, David and Katie to go to a summer concert down the street.

In the name of summer fun, we gathered up a picnic blanket, some sandwiches, and beers, and had a great time watching Family of the Year perform.

We also had a great time people-watching, but that’s neither here nor there, haha. I’d never heard of Family of the Year before, but I did actually recognize a few of their songs. One of them I’ve heard on one of my XM stations, and then their hit, Hero, is on the radio. Man, I ended up really enjoying them. Gotta make it out to some more concerts put on by some local musicians this summer – Colorado is great for that.

We didn’t get back too late so when Sunday morning rolled around, I felt pretty good. I got started on this blog post, made me some breakfast, and then Shane and I headed out to church.

It was what else we had planned the rest of the day that scared me – shopping for patio furniture and a grill. At church I silently said a prayer that we would still be happy and smiling at the end of our trip. You see, whenever Shane and I argue, it tends to be while shopping for things for the home. We both have strong opinions, and sometimes those opinions clash Winking smile Luckily, this time we came home still liking each other, and with a new grill, and patio furniture on which we could eat what we make on said grill. Bonus points: we cooked two meals on the grill, and put together the way-too-difficult-to-put-together-than-should-have-been chairs with a smile on our face.

Another mission accomplished. Albeit a little exasperated after spending 2.5 hours putting together four chairs.

And now I’m off to teach and train for the morning! Have a great Monday Smile

How was your weekend?

What’s your favorite thing to cook on the grill?
