Another perfect, relaxing day in the books!
I was telling my parents yesterday that I feel like this isn’t real life – like I was booted from my current life and sent here to rehab in Florida with them. It’s just so calm and warm and relaxing!
Actually…today isn’t that warm. After two days in the upper 70’s, we woke up today to temps in the upper 50’s (poor me, I know.) Though I can’t feel too sorry for myself, knowing Shane (who will be joining us today) and the rest of my family is enjoying this lovely weather back home.
Yesterday’s start to my day made me seriously question our decision to move west instead of south, yoga on the beach with my mom:
It also made me question ever taking a class inside a studio again:
Can ya spot me?
How ‘bout now? ![]()
With the warm breeze on my back, sun on my face, breathing the ocean air, and listening to the ocean waves that matched my breath, I was in yoga heaven. If you’re ever staying on or near Casey Key in Nokomis (Sarasota) Florida, you must take one of Allison’s yoga on the beach classes on Thursday morning.
After yoga with mom, it was time for breakfast with dad:
Although I take after my mom’s love for all things fitness, I take after my dad’s love for all foods tasty
A three egg omelet with veggies and bacon, and a side of potatoes from a local breakfast place was the perfect post-yoga brunch!
After brunch digested, my dad and I headed down to the beach (where Shane and I got married) and relaxed a little bit (see the first picture in this post) before I took off on a long beach walk to the Jetty.
I think it was actually only about 2 miles, but I was walking in the surf, and with the sun on my back, I almost felt sick when I got back. It was worth it though, because once I reached the jetty, I saw…
a manatee! Such a lovely, docile sea cow ![]()
The rest of the day included lounging by the pool, reading, and happy hour.
And then we spent the evening in Venice for a Christmas walk, where we did a little shopping, and had some dinner.
I didn’t get a picture of dinner (well, I did, but I forgot my flash was on, got embarrassed and pulled away my camera, and then the camera didn’t come back out
) but I had the BEST dinner I’ve had in a while – Blackened grouper, a stinking LOADED baked potato, and asparagus in hollandaise sauce. So stinking delicious.
I just woke up not too long ago, and my original plan was to run to the beach this morning before breakfast, but now I’m thinking finding a breakfast spot with my dad sounds like a pretty good idea. We’ll see what I decide, but the latter sounds awfully more appealing ![]()
Have a good Friday, friends!
What’s your favorite type of fish to eat?

Yoga on the beach really is a wonderful thing. When I was still living in SoCal, I had gone to yoga one morning and one of the studios was doing a smoke out and ended up setting off the smoke detectors and we had to leave the building. My yoga instructor decided that instead of waiting it out, we would just have the rest of our class on the bluffs over looking the ocean. It was an insanely peaceful class.

It definitely looks like you’re enjoying yourself so far! Good for you! Soak it all in for me.
My favorite type of fish is probably salmon or halibut, but I honestly love pretty much any kind of fish. I loooove seafood.

Over the summer, my grandma was taking a yoga class on a beach up in NH a couple times a week. She absolutely loved it and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since! Looks to peaceful, a major step up from a studio for sure.

Looks like you had a great trip! There is a place a little north of Sarasota, (Ft. Desoto) that has a Kayoga (kayaking + yoga) class. You kayak from Ft. Desoto to Shell Key, then do yoga on the beach. I did it a couple of years ago. I’m not a yoga person, but it was pretty awesome.
My fave fish is either grouper or snapper.. yum!
