My Thanksgiving Meal Plan of Attack–and a Thanksgiving Survey

Good morning Open-mouthed smile

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow American readers!!!

Today is actually going to be super chill for Shane and me. I think we’re just eating the big meal with my parents – just the four of us. I made this brussels sprouts salad as well as a Dr. Bowars-approved pumpkin pie (there will also be regular pumpkin pie, because I’m only human.) We might also get to see Shane’s dad and his dad’s wife. Good times Smile

Regardless, I have a plan of attack for this year’s Meal of The Year:

Eat all the things.

OK, maybe not all of then (I’m not a fan of jarred cranberries, haha) but all of my favorite things. AKA – I will not be following the advice of my naturopath today (just as I didn’t in Colorado the other weekend) – sorry Dr. Bowars Winking smile

However, since it’s the holiday, I thought I’d keep things light over here with a little Thanksgiving survey – in present and past tense, since some of you will probably not read this until after your turkey day Winking smile I got this survey from, and then added in a few extra questions of my own at the end.

1. Where did/will you be eating this Thanksgiving?

See answer above. However, we’re also getting the whole family together on Saturday at my aunt’s to celebrate with a fish fry! Not traditional, but still delicious.

2. Did you/will you be watching any games?

I only care about my Bears, really, so only if I need an excuse to rest my eyes Winking smile

3. How long did you spend/will you eating your Thanksgiving meal?

Probably 15 minutes for the actual meal (2 mins for Shane, lol) but it usually spans about 3-4 hours from first sip of champagne to last bite of dessert.

4. Are you worried about putting on weight this Thanksgiving?

Um…no. You’re not going to gain 5 pounds from ONE meal. Regardless, I’m all right with gaining a couple pounds right now anyway. And for those who are watching the waistline, my motto for you on Thanksgiving: pick the dishes that are your absolute favorite, that don’t come around too often, indulge in them, and do NOT feel guilty. It’s just one day! Enjoy it! Smile

5. What do you normally eat at Thanksgiving?

All the traditionals – turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing (which I actually don’t go crazy for – but Shane does) cranberries, champagne, glug, and pie, pie, pie.

6. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Hands down my aunt’s mashed potatoes. Ohmygawd.

7. What will you be thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Oh! Thanks for making me think of this question early, quizopolis! At my aunts house, we go all the way around the table in prayer, saying what we’re thankful for, and I always feel put on the spot, and end up sputtering something generic. Anyway. This year I am thankful for my health, my career, my family, the future, and life comforts. And champagne. Ahem.

8. What is your best Thanksgiving memory?

Post-dinner hikes up to the jumbo with my cousins! There’s this big, well, I’m not sure what it is really. They call it the jumbo, and we hike up to the top every year!

9. Do you give cards or presents at Thanksgiving?

10. Did you/Are you planning on shopping the day after Thanksgiving?

Never. Ever. Ever. But this year I’ll be working!

11. Will you be waking up early to hit the sales?

No, if you didn’t catch that from #10. I’ll be sleeping in as late as I can…which will probably be like 7:00 lol

*my questions*

12. Is there a designated kids table at your Thanksgiving?

Yes! And I just graduated to the big girl table a couple years ago! haha

13. Are prayers said before eating?

Yup! One of the kids reads from the prayer book, and then we go around doing the “I’m thankful for…” thing.

14. Have you ever eaten tofurkey for Thanksgiving?

Not I!

15. Will there be any alcoholic beverages for the meal?

Yes, and before – wine, beer, champagne, and glug. I usually stick with the champs.

Or bloody mary’s. I’m not picky.

Before I go…I wanted to say that I’m very THANKFUL for you, my dear readers, who engage me in awesome conversation on this little blog. Thank you so much for reading and caring what I have to say. I am really, truly, thankful for you Red heart

Now, YOUR turn:

Do you sit at the kids table still for Thanksgiving?

Black Friday: yay or nay?

  3. Ha, I laugh when I see all these people worrying about eating healthy on Thanksgiving! It’s one day, people. You do not need to work out for 5 hours or eat salad for a week to prepare. Yikes.

    • Lindsay, I have been pondering on your commnet. I am still laughing if it is what I think you meant it to be. Don’t fool around with the Big Guy, even though He has the most incredible sense of humor, otherwise He would have wiped us all out a long time ago. Thanks for being a faithful reader.

  4. My mom and I DO go out for Black Friday shopping, but not for anything in particular and not super early either. Happy Thanksgiving Paige!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving:-) The jumbos are actually in several towns in the area of Central Illinois that once had numerous coal mines. They are a result of the dirt piled up from the mines back in the day. Everybody is planning the jumbo trek again this Saturday, and we are all waiting to hear the little kids prayers of thanks. Remember, “Thank God for Uncle Caleb”? Love, love, love that one.

  6. Great survey! Have a very happy thanksgiving and enjoy your day!

  7. Happy Thanksgiving! No way to traditional Black Friday. Hubs and I have a tradition: We go to Vermont for pie. We take off from Mass. early, visit the most quaint town with little shops ( no crowds!), have lunch and search for the best place for pie. It’s always fun! We always end up at some sort of diner.

  8. Happy happy Thanksgiving, Paige!!

Ps: SO not a fan of canned cranberries either haha
