What I Eat on Rest Days {WIAW}

Good morning!

I’m so glad you  enjoyed or appreciated yesterday’s post. I truly appreciate every single person who reads what I have to say (or not  say) on this blog Open-mouthed smile And I’m glad that even though I didn’t mention it, you guys are OK with my appreciation of a quality (or even not very quality, who am I kidding?) cocktail Winking smile

Oh, right, and Happy Halloween!


I have to admit, Halloween is my least favorite holiday (I know, I know) and this year I really slacked on celebrating. Not only did I not even buy a costume for me or Niko (see Niko’s past Halloween costumes,) but we also slacked on carving pumpkins. Heck, I haven’t even gotten candy for the trick-or-treaters yet! And to be completely honest, if I didn’t care what my neighbors thought of Shane and me (Shane cares a lot more, ha) I’d probably just leave the porch light off – but I’m not that bad Winking smile

Anyway, this week brings the return of What I Ate Wednesday to Your Trainer Paige!

But this time, with a twist! Usually, I post my Tuesday eats, just because it’s the day before – and I don’t remember until then. This week, however, I decided to show my rest day meals and snacks. I take 1-2 rest days per week, and one is almost always on Sunday.

So here’s this past Sunday’s eats!

8:30 am – breakfast: oatmeal:

The night before was the wedding, so I slept in all the way until 7:30, which is late for me. I had to train an in-home client in an hour, so I made a bowl of pumpkin oats, made pretty much like Courtney’s way.

12:30 pm – lunch: BLT + raddish:

In between two pieces of Ezekiel bread: 3 slices turkey bacon, a little mayo, Romaine, and tomato. On the side – a sliced raddish drizzled with some olive oil and vinegar dressing.


Yum. I don’t know why I don’t make this more often!

2:30ish pm – snack: two trail mix cookies:

And some pom arils:


5:00 pm – football snack: carrots and guac:

I peeled and cut up a few carrots, and used them as a vehicle to demolish an entire small avocado’s-worth of guacamole. Delicious.

7:00 pm – dinner: eggplant parmesan:

Not feeling too hungry due to my earlier snacks, I made an easy dinner of egg plant parmesan (sliced eggplant roasted with breadcrumbs/parmesan/spices mix,) some mozzarella, a little quinoa, spinach, and some marinara.


I love eggplant parmesan the most served on crusty, toasted baguette, but this was delicious, too.

Fitness: pretty much nada

That’s it! I don’t change up too much on rest days. I guess the main change is the meals/snacks are less involved.

  1. I do eat a bit less fats + protein on rest days. When I have a heavy workout I end up craving Peanut Butter, nuts or eggs all day so I’ll eat far less of those when I’m not working out!

  2. You know what? I’m not big on Halloween either and people generally think I’m kind of crazy. I like the kids all dressed up but I also know if I had to be home and hand out every piece of candy, it’d probably get a little old. (I sound like such a grump – ha!) I’m working today and we were told we could dress up. Seeing as I work at a local coffee shop, I thought it’d be funny to show up in my old Starbucks apron and hat, but I don’t think anyone else would find it nearly as funny so I’m just going as me… 😉

  3. That’s one tasty rest day! I’m so excited pomegranates are back. Peeling them is a pain, but the reward is well worth it. I use them to top everything during the winter.

  4. On workout days I have a protein smoothie a my mid-afternoon snack. Rest days it’s whatever I feel like in the afternoon – other that that, no real change!

  5. That dinner looks amazing! For me it totally depends on the rest day! Sometimes I am hungrier on my rest day and other times I am just not as hungry and usually snack less! My biggest change is just not having a post workout shake after my workout!

  6. I never carve pumpkins for the holiday. It’s safer for everyone involved. :)

    Generally, my eats on rest days look about the same… maybe with a few less carb-y snacks. I’m pretty consistent…

  7. I didn’t carve pumpkins this year either! My rest and active days are pretty close, except I have a protein and carb right after my workout. Can you believe I have never had a pomegrante??

  9. I feel like some rest days I eat sooo much!! But I usually eat pretty similar day to day! Niko looks so cute! No halloween for us over here, it was moved to november 7th but I still really dont feel like today is October 31st!

  10. Fun post, I am always curious how others feel on rest days. I try to listen to my body & stomach. Depending on the days before workouts, I am sometimes ravenous on rest days, other times, not too hungry. If I need to feed the “beast” I do :)

  11. I always find I’m hungrier on rest days. It’s almost like my body finally catches up with my workouts. I wasn’t too into Halloween this year honestly. I felt a little bad because it was always my favorite as a kid, but I just lacked costume/party motivation this year.

  12. I eat pretty similar each day, even on rest days. Sometimes even more, since my appetite seems to get a little crazier on rest days. Ha ha, at first I thought you said you were eating porn, but then I looked closer and it actually said pom…I think I need more sleep today;)

  13. Thank goodness someone else takes good solid rest days! I actually don’t eat any different on my rest days than I do on my workout days. I don’t do liquid aminos either on my workout days. Do you notice a difference when you drink them on your workout days? Anyway, I eat pretty balanced all the time, so I never really change things up. I know…I’m boring. I’m good with it though.

    • I don’t really notice a difference. The biggest difference I notice with aminos is the difference while I’m drinking them. I notice that I have more stamina to power through a workout while sipping them!

  14. Is it okay to not take, full rest days? I always mean to, but AM workouts are so routine! Some days I do just two or three miles on the treadmill and Fridays are hot yoga sessions but is there a need for rest days?

  15. My rest days are typically on Fridays and my eats on Fridays are pretty consistent with the rest of the week. The only difference would be that the fresh fruits and veggies are starting to run low so I have to be a little more creative with my meals. I find that sometime I’m super hungry on my rest days especially if I have had a good week of strong workouts.

  17. Such yum eats, Paige! I used to ALWAYS eat less on rest days…regardless of my hunger levels! Fortunately those crazy days are long gone and I tend to eat the same amounts now, workout or not. In fact I find that I am actually hungrier on rest days so I just embrace it now.
