Opinionated

Good morning! Open-mouthed smile

Today I’d typically do a Thoughts on that Thursday vlog, but since I vlogged yesterday, and kind of did a verbal vomit of my thoughts on eating bread, I think I’ll take this week off and keep my opinions to myself.

Just kidding. When do I ever do that?

It’s a blog, after all, and one thing I love about having a blog is sharing my opinions with you guys! That, and the give and take feedback via your comments Smile And today is no different.

Opinion #1. Go get your moles checked. Soon. Go!

image
Tuesday afternoon, I made a little trip to the dermatologist to get a mole on my left jawline  checked out. I was prepared for it to go like the last time I got a mole checked out, when she just shaved it off with a razor. Imagine my surprise when she said she’s a little worried about it and wants me to see a plastic surgeon to have it excised. EXCISED?! That word sounds a LOT scarier than shaved. But I have my consultation next month and am getting it taken care of. Prayers appreciated. Open-mouthed smile

Opinion #2. Know that everyone has insecurities.

Want to know one of my main insecurities? My skin, and it aging. I don’t currently use any anti-aging products (I should do a post on my skincare routine soon, though!) but I’m always concerned that I look older than my age (27. and a half.) So, after getting my moles checked out, I talked to my derm about it. I walked out with a sample of concentrated vitamin C serum:

and this:

a prescription for a Tretinoid. Basically a very concentrated vitamin A cream. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to get the prescription filled, though, because she said I can’t wax my eyebrows if I use it, and I like having nicely shaped eyebrows done by a professional, thankyouverymuch!

Opinion #3. Fasting is HARD. Fasting for food and coffee just plain sucks.

I had to get some blood work done yesterday, and couldn’t eat anything or drink anything but water since midnight the night before. During this time, I trained 3 clients, but I’m not sure how. After my appointment I beelined it to Starbucks like it was nobody’s business.

Opinion #4. Everyone should by the car behind them’s Starbucks every now and then.

While waiting in the drive-through line for aforementioned coffee, I decided to do this, and it. felt. good. I think it brightened my morning as much as it surely brightened the person behind me!

In addition to getting coffee asap after my appointment, I also wanted some food asap. I’d had this frozen breakfast burrito in the freezer for a while, and busted it out yesterday when a hot and ready breakfast in three minutes sounded delightful:

Not too shabby! About as tasty as a frozen breakfast burrito can be, I suppose.

Then I went back to work, and once I got some energy back, I did a little back and biceps workout of the following:

-wide grip lat pull downs
-seated row
-T-bar rows
-back extensions
-cable curls
-hammer curls

I usually don’t isolate the biceps (or triceps) but I was feeling extra spunky yesterday. And now I can’t straighten my arms. Lovely.

Then I ended the day with a little elliptical reading:

Good times.

This post is getting a little rambly, but before I go, I have to show you last night’s amazing crock pot dinner:

IMG_9288
Chicken tortilla soup! The best I’ve had. And Shane said the same thing. Plus, it’s about 10 steps easier than the kind I was making last year.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been absolutely loving the crock pot dinners lately, so before I went to work (for the second time) I put all of this in the crock pot:

So Damn Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup

-1 chopped onion
-1 lb. organic chicken breasts
-1 can fire roasted tomatoes
-garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt
-1 carton organic chicken broth
-1 can black beans
-1 small bag of frozen corn

And then set it (and forget it!) on low for 8 hours.

Serve with some shredded cheese, avocado, and tortilla chips.

Have you ever had to get any “suspicious looking spots” removed/excised?

Favorite crock pot meal of the moment?

  3. Yep, I have had a few moles removed that turned out to be fine. But better safe than sorry! I’ve been using anti-aging products for many years now. Not sure if they help, but it makes me feel better LOL

  4. You inspired me. The next time I’m driving through the ‘bux, I’m buying the car behind me coffee! LOVE random acts of kindness. I always feel so much joy after doing them. Way to be. :)

  5. I have to fast next week one day before a physical (they offer them at work). NOT looking forward to it…

And my aging skin is one thing I’m terrified about, too. I use something for under the eyes, but have not dove into the vitamin C… let me know how that goes. :)

  7. I HATE fasting for doctor tests. I get really low blood-sugar when I don’t eat. Usually I am super dramatic and make a family member drive me the three miles to the doctor when I have to get a fasting test done.

    • LOL – That’s ok – next time! :) Mine was pretty much the opposite – I was like “should I shouldn’t I?” and then all the sudden I heard myself blurting it out haha

  11. Love this post! That soup looks great! That is so sweet you bought the car behind you coffee! I’ll have to remember to do that! That would totally brighten up my day if someone did that for me!

  12. I think buying Starbucks for the car behind you is such a nice thing to do. I always forget to do it when I’m there, but I definitely want to one of these days. Good deeds make everyone’s day better.

  13. Love the random act of kindness idea @ Starbucks. Think I’ll have to do that this holiday season :)

  14. Good for you for going to the derm. I don’t have any moles really, but I should probably go anyway. It’s one of those things that is just necessary. I’m also worried about aging. I hate that it concerns me so much, but it just seems like once I start getting wrinkles, I’ll have to really face my mortality and I’m not ready for that yet.

  15. Totally agree with Opinion 2….even the most beautiful actresses/actors/singers..whoever. Everyone has insecurities, and no one is perfect. I’ve been trying to let go of my insecurities and really ask myself why I care. Who am I trying to impress? Why does it matter? It’s true that when you look good you feel good, but I’ve just been trying not to take that to the extreme.

  18. I have very fair skin and have had several bad sunburns in my life. I see a dermatologist yearly. This past July, she noted a few spots to keep an eye on, but I’ve never had to get any spots seriously checked out… thankfully!

I love the idea of buying someone’s Starbucks for them!

  19. I just went to the doctors and have to go to the derm now to get some moles checked out, I’m freaked about it honestly! Ick, fasting is definitely one of the worst things. I have hypoglycemia, so my doctor tries to have me avoid it if possible. I love buying other peoples coffees, it feels really good and its nice to add some positivity to someone elses day! Thinking good thoughts for your consultation!

    • You need to see another dotocr and get a second opinion! Skin cancer runs in my family, so I have had to get several moles surgically removed and biopsied for cancer. The redness and bleeding of your mole is a major health risk/concern! Go to another dotocr ASAP and make and appointment to get it removed/biopsied! Good luck!!

  20. Skin cancer is no joke! My grandfather let it go too long! My uncle just had a huge piece cut out of him too! You have my prayers for sure! Keep me posted on it. I will now worry!

  21. I’ve never had any moles excised, but I know I really need to get a full body check by the dermatologist. Which makes me a little bashful, actually. I’m not all that thrilled about stripping down and getting a full once over, but it’s all in the interest of health….

I’m all about stews in the crock pot. Especially with cooler weather coming on.

  22. I have tretinoin. I assume she said you couldn’t wax your eyebrows because that stuff really dries out your skin, especially in the first couple months, but I can’t imagine you’d be putting it near your eyes? Anyway, that stuff is very effective. Have lots of moisturizer on hand.

  25. It’s like you wrote this post knowing I was having an internal debate with myself today over a spot on my leg. In fact I’m pretty sure I need to have it removed but there’s also the part of me that just hopes it disappears by the time I wake up in the morning. I’ve had an awful past year of health issues and I need that to end before I get kicked off the ‘rents insurance…
