Ketchup Talk

“One day there were three tomatoes walking down the street, a mama tomato, a daddy tomato, and a baby tomato. Baby tomato is walking too slowly, so the daddy tomato goes back, steps on him and says, "ketchup!"

This post has nothing to do with ketchup. Nor does is have anything to do with Pulp Fiction (where that joke is from.) I just really like Pulp fiction and want to catch ya’ll up on life lately.

I never really got into how amazing it was this past weekend to spend 48 hours with two of my bestest friends in the world:


These girls are really like the sisters I never had. I legit go through withdrawals every single year after FLW girls’ weekend.

All we do all weekend is sing, dance, make up songs, and probably make people wonder wtf we’re doing:

Then we eat:

Oh and of course, then there’s the actual race, too. You know, the "reason" we all meet in Oak Park to have this weekend in the first place:


Yay besties!

However, I think I may have had A single veggie the entire weekend, so when I got home on Sunday afternoon, I ate all the vegetables.

Well, I tried, at least.


I couldn’t even get this green juice I made half way down. I was seriously gagging the entire time I tried to drink the contents of this glass. All it was is radish greens,ice, water, and an apple blended up in the Vitamix. But it was disgusting. Bleh. BLEH!

And a pretty hardcore salad:


Green peppers, rashishes, carrots,dried bing cherries, sweet potato rounds, a pear, cottage cheese, and almond slivers. And some vinaigrette (I never spell that right) dressing.

I also did some veggie prep work for the week by washing and chopping brussels and roasting beets for the first time! Go me!

Then I collapsed on the couch and read my book and drank some of my new teas:

Destiny lives right near this freaking awesome tea shop, with more varieties of tea than you could ever imagine. I picked up a few (and a couple that Dest gave me – thanks girrrl!)

All I’m sayin’ is that coconut macaroon with milk and honey is like a liquid macaroon. But’cha gotta have the milk and honey with any “dessert” type of tea.


Got ta.

It’s also time to get back in the gym! Lately I’ve been really focusing on lifting heavier weights. I’ve been doing a 4 day split with legs twice in there since that’s generally what I focus on most:

-Back & biceps
-Chest & triceps
-Shoudlers, abs, calves

I kinda hate working my shoulders, abs, and my calves, so I lumped them all in the same day (among other reasons.) That’s my least favorite day.

I’ve also been focusing on joint flexibility. Did you know if you put your heels on a couple little plates when squatting, you’ll have better ankle mobility?


Lastly, let’s ketchup on the fitness front. I’ve been focusing way less cardio. Aside from 1-2 runs and a spin class each week, my cardio consists of hanging out on the elliptical waiting for my next client and taking my dog for walks. My goal: put on a bit of muscle – especially in the bootay and leg region.

Because of this, my appetite has sky-rocketed. Thusly, I’ve made a few changes to the ol’ diet – mostly just by eating MOAR, lol.


But I’ve also been following my usual eating-style, but just a magnified version: high carb in the morning and early afternoon, high fat in the late afternoon and evening, and high protein all day. I’ve also been trying out casein protein for the first time – thanks to Julie, for the suspicious package I received in the mail the other day:

Nope, not drugs – casein protein powder! My iron-pumping blend sent me a few baggies full of it when I told her I’d never tried the stuff. She’s such a sweetie Smile Thanks, Julie!

There’s actually even more I have to catch you up on, but for now, we’ll just leave it at that.

All right – time to get scootin’! I’ve got a busy Tuesday morning filled with finishing up and sending out some online client work – programs and check-ins – and then heading into the gym to train some one-on-one-ers! Have a good one Open-mouthed smile

What’s your favorite movie with John Travolta movie? I freaking love Pulp Fiction, but my favorite movie because of his role is totally Grease! Fun fact: my BFF and I participated in lip syncs when we were kids and always did Grease songs – and I was always Danny! LOL We actually placed every time we performed, too! Glad I don’t have a picture of that Winking smile

  5. Grease is definitely the best John Travolta movie…such a classic!

    And casein is definitely a good way to go…I have some every night – chocolate casein usually mixed with cottage cheese or Greek yogurt and maybe some chocolate peanut butter or chocolate chips thrown in there. It’s tasty and seems to help me with my muscle growth!

  6. What is considered heavier weights? I never really know if I’m lifting heavy or just “lifting”… ha!

    • I was wondering about that too! For example, how much do you squat? How many reps?

    • Hi Laura! It’s very subjective, but when I focus on lifting heavier, I choose a weight where I can lift between 5-8 reps (depending on how heavy) and usually around 4-5 sets, with at least a minute’s rest between sets.

  20. Um GREASE, of course! I so wanted to be Sandy! I’m so glad you had a great weekend! As for the hunger from lifting…I am a starving beast from the running lately. I haven’t let up on my strength training at all though, so I felt like my clothes were getting a little loose and I hopped on the scale…um, yeah, I had to increase my calories! I gained some weight when started lifting more, which I liked, but lost some from the running…but I’m loving the running! Oh well, I will just eat to fuel what I’m doing now and adjust it when I change again. It’s kinda cool to put my studies into action on myself though. Fitness nutrition is complete fascinating!
