Can we take a quick second to discuss how I’ve already crossed off an item from my fall bucket list and it’s NOTEVENFALLYET??
Pumpkin spiced cupcakes. Boom.
OK, fine, I’ve yet to frost them, so they resemble everything else that’s on my to-do list and is only half done. Such is my life. But I didn’t realize I didn’t have any cream cheese until it was too late, so the frosting will have to wait until after I get done training clients this afternoon.
I might even stop by the cupcake shop to get some little pumpkin sprinkles (I knew I should have gotten them when I was there the last time!) OR maybe I’ll just put some candy corn on top. What do you think? They’re for one of my friend’s birthdays/going away party/bunco. Fun times!
All right. Back to the topic at hand. The other day I was thinking about which songs I’d include in this month’s Workout Playlist. August had some rockin’ tunes, but it seems like not much new has really come out since I made that one.
As if the playlist gods were reading my thoughts, I then came across the website jog.fm, a website designed to create a playlist based on your taste in music and pace of your workout. Cool, right?
I was going to just create a playlist based on my pace and taste, and then share my it with you all, but I had so much fun actually making the playlist, I had to share the actual process with you. (I am not at all affiliated with jog.fm – I just thought it was super cool – enough to share.)
I first decided to create my playlist based on my run pace, which is around 9:15-9:30 for a 5 mile run, give or take a few seconds depending on which mile I’m on and how I’m feeling
Tthen I filtered the music to HOT (yeah baby!) From there, I just picked and chose which songs fit my style and added them to my playlist!
Pretty cool, right? I came up with the following playlist:
- Katy Perry, Wide Awake
- Neon Trees, Everybody Talks
- Beyonce, Ego
- Carrie Underwood, Undo it
- Glee Cast, Dream On (ft. NPH)
- Britney Spears, Stronger
- Beyonce, Halo
- Mumford & Sons, After the Storm
- One Direction, One Thing
- Drake, Kanye West, Forever
- Mariah Carey, Always Be My Baby
- Carrie Underwood, Last Name
- Gavin Degraw, In Love with a Girl
- FlyLeaf, There for You
While choosing my songs, I thought the selection had a surprisingly large inventory of country and Blink 182, so I tried a playlist with the fast guys, just for funsies.
There we go. You could also make one based on a tempo run, by choosing songs that have a little slower BPM at the beginning, and then gradually get faster and faster, and then slow again for the last part. Alternatively, you could create an interval-pace playlist with fast/slow BPM songs.
Can you guess what my workout will be today? Why, a 5 mile (steady-paced) run, using the playlist I created above. Didn’t see that one coming, didja? ![]()
But before, breakfast is to be eaten on the run. Probably after my first client but before my second one.
Plain Oikos, melon, oats, almond butter. Yum!
And in case you *don’t* have a workout in mind today, try this boot camp workout I plan to put a few boot campers through soon:
Complete exercises one time through. You’ll need a weighted rope for this workout. Always check with your doctor before beginning any new exercise program.
Boot Camp!
Weighted rope double waves – 25 each arm
25 walking lunges
Weighted rope double waves – 25 each arm

kk, I’m off to train a few clients and work the day away! Have a good one, loves ![]()
What songs are you currently listening to during your workouts?
Any plans for the weekend?
I’ve got bunco tonight (my last time playing,) and am then visiting my dad, who had surgery earlier this week (and is OK…
) tomorrow, I think.
PS – you have until Monday to enter my giveaway for a month’s worth of online personal training!

What a great tip for playlists! Those pumpkin spice cupcakes sound amazing!!! I’m so happy pumpkin season is back!

So I’m assuming you have to own the songs to put them on your playlist? I usually just use Pandora + Run Keeper, but having them set to your pace would be cool!

Yep – Basically it’s just a playlist building tool, and then from there you just buy/download them
I actually like Mumford and Sons too – most of their music has that building up quality that is perfect for workouts.
Agreed! Gets more motivating as the song plays.
I totally needed this information! I’m trying to put together a playlist now for my upcoming 5k (yes, I am doing my 1st official race) and I had no idea where to start! Thank you for sharing this! I’m loving running to Florence and the Machine lately, but I need more variety. I’m off to check this site out!
P.S. I’m glad your dad is doing well! Enjoy your weekend Paige!

jog.fm sounds great!! I’m always looking for new tunes and since I never listen to the radio, I never know what new music is out. I will have to try this. And that looks like a great workout too.

I really want to look into that playlist builder! It looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully it can introduce me to some new tunes.
