OK, that title could be misleading – I’m not talking about sneaking food. I don’t do that. Never. Wait, do you count slivering off the teeensiest sliver of yet another piece of zucchini bread before putting it back in the fridge? Good, me neither.
On the blog, I show you guys various meals that I’ve made and eaten. You see breakfast the most often, mostly because I like to talk about my workouts a lot, and breakfast comes next. Then I also post about dinner successes, and subsequent recipes, from time to time, like the tequila lime shrimp one from the other night. And if you follow me on Instagram or facebook, you’ll even see lunch from time to time!
But what you don’t see hardly ever, aside from the rare WIAW post, is? SNACKS. Snacky snack snacks. And I eat them. A lot – usually three times a day, in fact!
So today I thought I’d show you just that – what I’ve been snacking on lately
Every once in a while, I’ll have a snack in between breakfast and lunch, and if I do, 99.999% of the time it’s fruit, and 80% of the time, that fruit is an apple.
I freaking love apples. They’re like the most perfect on the go snack – am I right or am I right? Coming in second (lately, anyway) is pineapple, followed by peaches. For some reason, all berries and bananas are typically reserved to being eaten with my breakfast. Not sure I know why, just that my taste buds prefer it that way.
Second snack comes between lunch and dinner. This one I never skip, mainly because lunch and dinner are often 6+ hours apart. For this one, I’ll go with a few different options…
Another apple or banana (oops…not just during breakfast I guess) + peanut butter or almond butter, trail mix, or veggies and hummus.
banana, meet peanut butter jar
And I wouldn’t really consider BCAA drinks to be a snack, but sometimes if I have a break in my afternoon clients, I’ll hop on the elliptical and sip on some of my Fitmixer aminos (fyi:affiliate link) for a little afternoon energy boost.
(I think the banana in the PB jar combo is behind it, too! haha)
I rarely have anything else but one of the combos above.
Snack #3 comes about two hours after dinner, and I’d say I it only happens about 70% of the time – and usually in the form of:
Greek yogurt + frozen berries. I have this combo most often. It’s sweet, fairly healthy, and I love it with a little almond butter.
Except the other night I added THESE DEVLISH GOODIES:
Gah. I got these the other day when I was hungry and at the grocery store. Bad, bad, fabulous idea.
This ice cream is THE best ice cream you can buy in a carton. Shane and I go through a carton in about 5 days. It’s crazy.
Sometimes I just need something a wee bit sweet to end the day on, and sometime just a piece of chocolate will do it for me. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? Me? Nahhh
Can wine be considered a snack?
Sometimes I’ll have wine after dinner instead (or with) a snack.
Finally, we have the bites, nibbles, and extras snacks. These tend to come after lunch if I’m in the kitchen wandering around, or right before dinner. This is usually more snacking out of bordom, or random hunger, and I’ll likely grab what’s closest.
Vanilla Cupcake Goldfish above (when they’re gone, they’re gone…I’m swearing to it!) veggies, or fruit that’s in the fridge,
Mini bags of Kettlecorn:
A finger dipped in almond butter, a sliver of whatever bread I’ve baked that week,
CHIPS AND SALSA:
I am THE worst at filling up with chips and salsa/guac while dinner is cooking. Especially if I’m cooking anything Mexican-related because that gives me an even bigger excuse to bust out the chips and salsa.
Another one – especially with all the new delicious flavors – that I’ll munch on while dinner’s cooking.
So there ya have it! My “secret” snacking habits!
I better get scootin’. My morning schedule is CHOCK full of clients. It’s a busy one ‘round here! Then it’s time for some weekend trip fun
