Yesterday I had about a 2.5 hour break in between clients, so I made the decision to grab my yoga mat, and high tail it to my other gym to go to Wednesday morning Power Yoga. I’m usually not able to make it to the class, because I’m typically training a client during it, but yesterday because said client was on vacation for the week. Poweeerrr yoga time!
Although I was most definitely rusty, I really enjoyed the class (despite my screaming hamstrings and shoulders today! yowza!) The instructor commented on how she hadn’t seen me in forever, and I let her know about my schedule conflict, to which she told me that she’ll now be offering the class on Saturday mornings in the park! Saweeeet! I love me some park workouts ![]()
It got me thinking about how last summer I taught a boot camp class in the park. One of my all time favorite games was a tennis ball game (flash back post!) I made up. I grabbed about 2 dozen tennis balls, wrote an exercise on each ball, and put them all at the end of a tennis court.
Then, I had the boot camp participants partner up and start at the other end of the court. Taking turns, I’d yell out a form of movement to get to the other end of the court (sprint! burpees! crab walks! or any other walking exercise.) When they grabbed the ball, they had to do 15 reps of whatever exercise was written on it, then turn around and do the same form of movement back to the start. SUCH a fun game – everyone seemed to enjoy turning their workouts into a game ![]()
This morning for my own workout, I channeled my playful side and created a game out of my exercise. Actually, it was more of my productive side, as it was a multi-task then a game.

See that pile of towels at the bottom of the stairs? They all had to go upstairs in the linen closet. Naturally, I played the run-the-stairs-and-put-away-laundry-game!
Basically, I sprinted up the stairs, and alternated 15 squats,15 incline push ups, 15 dips, and 15 calf raises. Here’s what I did:
- Grab 1 towel
- Sprint up stairs
- Complete 15 squats
- Put towel away
- Walk down stairs
- Repeat, but with 15 push ups, then dips, then calf raises each time.
I think I had about 15 towels to put away, so it was quite the workout by the time I was done! Plus, I’d put all the towels away
haha
And before you say it, yes, I realize I’m a huge nerd ![]()
Before I go, I feel the need to share last night’s dinner with you. It was a GOOD one.
Our freezer is stocked with delicious organic meat right now, but last night I was craving something a little lighter – like shrimp! I didn’t want to make shrimp pasta (I like to fall back on this light and tasty recipe) like I usually do, so I decided to go with a little fiesta lime theme, featuring the world’s most popular rice:
I made a copy cat of Chipotle’s cilantro-lime rice using this recipe, which I have to say is pretty darn close to the real deal.
Oh yeah, and there was also some shrimp:
For the shrimp, I just tossed them in a marinade of a little lime juice, tequila (oh yes, I went there,) lime zest, sea salt, pepper, and Mrs. Dash Chipotle. Then I tossed them in a heated pan on the stove with some diced jalapeno peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and peppers.
Then I combined the following for the “dressing”
-1/2 c. Greek yogurt
-juice of 1/2 lime
-1 tsp. sugar
-1 tbsp. chopped cilantro
-1/4 tsp. cayenne
-sea salt
Ohhh yeah
Told ya it was a good one!
OK, time to get to work. I’ve got a few client plans to work on and finish by Saturday…better get to it!
Semi-random question: Favorite seafood?
Do you ever consider housework a workout?
I don’t necessarily consider it a workout, but if I have floors to scrub, bathrooms to clean, and furniture to dust, I make sure I don’t do a super intense workout that morning.

Is it weird that I don’t consider housework a workout? Tony and I were talking about this the other day when he pointed out that cutting the grass was a workout and I told him that I still needed to do my “regular” workout even if I cut the grass. I kind of think it depends on how your body responds to the work you’re doing. Now, if you add lunches or squats to the house cleaning, then yes! It’s absolutely a workout!

I definitely consider a really good whole-house scrub a workout. Last Sunday I scrubbed the condo for 2 hours. Needless to say I was a sweaty mess afterward. Quite a workout!

Salmon or Mahi Mahi – I cannot choose one! haha. But I love all seafood

I love that you made putting away the towels into a game & workout! So much fun.
I usually don’t unless I am doing a complete head-toe type of house clean which is a all day activity but only happens twice a year usually.

what a fun and creative way to get in a workout out and do your chores! I love swordfish but hardly ever have it and salmon!
I consider laundry as a workout. We have two sets of steep stairs between my bedroom and the laundry area in the basement. Carrying it back and forth and all the up and down to throw it from washer to dryer and all that is a workout on the legs for sure!

YES! Cleaning at my house should be an Olympic event. Talk about getting your sweat on haha! And favorite seafood would be scallops.

Lol. That cracks me up. I always motivate myself to clean house on the basis that it’s a good workout!

so glad you posted the shrimp recipe – anything with real tequila is a key to my heart. This looks awesome! Love the home work out, too.. so creative and whatever works right? I definitely consider housework a work out. Especially vacuuming. My fav seafood is a toss up – I love swordfish and seabass, but also love shrimp &calamari!

I love your put-laundry-away-workout…definitely a creative way to add a workout into your day! Might have to try something like this sometime.
Favourite seafood is calamari. Followed closely by scallops.

I hate folding towels, but I love your run-upstairs-one-at-a-time game
For me, washing my car is a total workout. Up and down the step stool for the top of the car and bending down for the tires, and then doing it all over again to dry it gets me very sweaty even in the shade. One guy told me that my Escape always looks great and he wished his wife would wash her car. Results: an hour of exercise and a good looking ride for a week.
I LOVE seafood – bring on the soft shell crab, shrimp, scallops….oh, and fried fish

I never usually consider housework a workout, unless I have a ton to do. Which I hardly ever have. That workout sounds like fun! Haha, I’m a nerd too and would totally do something like that:)
That dressing sounds so good!

I wish I had stairs. I long for the day I move out of the city so I can buy a house with stairs! Until then…I’ll take it to the Smithosonian steps on the mall
What a great idea! I am so doing this
Bringing laundry baskets up and down the stairs…definitely a good workout
I feel the burn that’s 4 sure lol

I love shrimp! That dinner looks amazing! The tennis ball game sounds like a blast. Nothing beats a fun and challenging workout!

I totally consider cleaning a workout … mainly when it comes to vacuuming and scrubbing the floors. Everything else is pretty minor so I don’t really break a sweat. Mowing the yard however is worse than running a 1/2 marathon for me. I HATE IT. Luckily that is Chris’ chore

I absolutely love shrimp- I think it is my favorite because I can actually cook it! The tennis court workout sounds so fun! I definitely think housework can be a workout, although I don’t call it a workout. If I’m mopping my floors- heck yes that is a workout! The towel/stairs idea is genius. I like your creativity!

That’s such a great idea!! I’m usually all about efficiency when getting household chores done i.e. carry a ridiculous huge pile of laundry to put away so that I don’t have to make return trips. haha. I also love the idea of the tennis ball game. That’s such a clever idea.

Yes, housework is a workout. Especially scrubbing sinks and counters and changing sheets on beds and especially gardening. I must use my stairs better like you did. Great idea.

I love the idea of a housework workout! I don’t have stairs unless I’m doing laundry, which is on todays agenda!
