No Equipment Required At-Home HIIT Workout
This morning I woke up extra bright and early. It’s my normal posting time and I’ve already gotten worked on some virtual training plans, did my workout (granted, it was only 30 minutes…more on that in a sec,) and eaten breakfast Yup, I got up extra early today on my own, and I think I know why…
I’ve always said there’s some secret sleep-inducing ingredient in Indian food, because every time I eat it, I konk out within a couple hours. Last night (when I finally got my fix!!!)
Hm. I’m just now realizing what my dal-something-or-other really looks like. Sorry about that. It was good, I promise!! Moving on…
Is it just me, or is this week flying by? I absolutely can’t believe it’s already Thursday.
I do have a sneaking suspicion why, though. This weekend is my BFF, Destiny’s bachelorette party (!!!!) and while I’m omgsofreakingpumped, the countdown’s on to make it all go off without a hitch. However, I can’t go into too much detail, because the beautiful bride-to-be is a religious reader of the blog (and I love you for it, D!) All I’m going to say is that it’s going to be legen-the-drinks-will-be-plentiful-and-there-might-be-one-that-includes-baileys-but-it-doesn’t-have-to-be-refrigerated-so-it-doesn’t-contain-dairy. So ’nuff about that.
Another reason this week’s flyin’ by, could be my excitement of looking forward to a fun group fitness class each day!
Monday was spin
Tuesday was Body Attack, a boot camp/interval training-style workout
Wednesday was power yoga…
…which I used to take all the time (aka weekly) but honestly…I don’t miss it much. I’m so picky when it comes to yoga. Maybe when I move to a big city and have more than, say, one, yoga studio to choose from I’ll finally find a class that fits me. Until then I suppose I’ll be content on saying that I’m going to use yoga download but in reality never getting around to using yoga download except maybe 6 times a year.
Anyway, let’s get to today’s class, or non-class, rather.
Today, my only options were Step and Body flow, neither of which I’m fond of. You see, I want to be that person that likes step, but I’d rather get my cardio in while NOT feeling like a too-tall, uncoordinated fool, who trips over her feet or the step. And body flow combines too many “zen” methods of my liking (yoga, pilates, tai chi, pick ONE!)

SOoo, I’m cheating – but only kind of
To offset my decision not to go to a Group Fitness class, I created my own class, in the form of a no-equipment required home HIIT workout:

I tried to use common plyo exercises, but just for clarification on a couple:
- side to side burpees – doing a burpee to one side, turning, and doing it to the other side
- push up with a row (no need for dumbbells if you don’t have them)
- plank jacks
- hopping heel taps (just use an imaginary jump rope)
floor to ceiling jumps (like a squat jump, but touch the floor in the “squat” portion)
Woo!!! I loved that I was able to keep my heart rate up even in the recovery exercises, and it was done in 30 minutes, including warm up and cool down.
After completing the workout, I headed back downstairs to get my breakfast on:
Strawberry protein shake made with brown rice vanilla pp, almond/coconut milk, ice, half frozen banana, some strawberries, and a little stevia. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve had a green smoothie, but I have to say, I’m not missing that extra handful of spinach. I figure I get in plenty of veggies at lunch and dinner (and snacks!) so it’s not worth sacrificing a little taste – for now.
Well I’ve got a busy day of training clients at the gym, as well as some brainstorming for a couple clients’ plans, so I better get to it! See ya!

I’ve also been craving sushi like a boss. I’ll have to rectify that soon, too.
