When I was in college, every year at the end of the spring semester, I’d pack up my dorm or apartment and head back to my parents’ house to spend the summer. Undoubtedly, most nights would be spent with girlfriends. Whether we were partying it up or just staying in and watching Sex and the City, they were a very big staple of my summers at home.
This weekend, if only for two days, took me right back to those memories.
Spending time at my folks’ and time with my girls!
I always tell my parents that they should move to Florida and really live up their retirement, but if I’m being 100% honest, I’d miss the home I grew up in (and them!!!) very, very much.
The reason I spent the weekend at home is because Saturday was my BFF, Destiny’s bridal shower and bachelorette party – an event several of us bridesmaids have been planning and trying to make perfect for months.
She’s kinda worth it
Since we had her shower and bachelorette party in the same day, after the shower, the bachelorette crew snuck off to get in “costume” for the night:
The bride is a haayuuuge Cubs fan, so we decided a baseball themed party would be fitting
Yep, it was a good weekend. Of course I can’t show you all the pics, but suffice it to say, it was a fun, wild, unforgettable day and night.
Surprisingly I didn’t feel too shabby yesterday – just a bit tired – and grabbed an omelet with my girl Kim before heading back to my home and to Shane. It was already in the afternoon by this point, but I got a little cleaning done, ran some errands with Shane (which included an impromptu ice cream stop…totally Shane’s idea – he forced me to buy that cup of birthday cake remix )
And if that wasn’t enough to satisfy my sweet tooth (it’s never satisfied,) this happened:
Shane picked up my CSA for me and let me know that we got yet another zucchini the size of his arm.
Random tip of the day from my CSA person – bigger zucchinis are better for baking and for frying, and smaller are better for cooking, eating raw, or sautéing. Did you guys know that??
Obviously, I had to use it in bread. This time, however, instead of going with my high protein, low fat zucchini bread, I went with Eating Well’s healthy zucchini bread. I like the high protein-low fat version – it’s very tasty, but in that this-is-healthy-and-tasty sort of way. I wanted tasty more in the dessert kinda way…know what I mean?
Oh, you know
I had a big ol’ slice along side my dinner last night (chicken salad, made this way, and roasted zucchini and summer squash,) and it’s definitely tasty!
Nice way to end the weekend!
This morning I’ve got a crazy busy morning full of in-home and in-club clients, and then I’m spending the afternoon back here working on some online training plans. Looks like I better get to it!
Before I go, I wanted to share a work out for Move it Monday that I completed Friday afternoon. I’d gone to spin in the morning, but wanted a quick little strength training circuit workout since I hadn’t lifted since Tuesday. This also provided as a second cardio workout because it’s so fast-paced. It had my muscles burning and my heart rate pretty steadily high.
Have a fab Monday, loves!
Thoughts on bridal shower games: love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan – especially when they drag on and on and on. and on. On Saturday, though, they were really fun games and quite speedy! So I guess I’m a fan of those kind.
