A New Toy & Honey Nut Butter

A rebirth.

Yesterday in between cleaning and a nap, I busted out a new toy. It’d been kicking it in the back of my car the whole week, just waiting for a moment of free time where I could take it out and put it to use!

I’ve been in dire need of a new food processor for months. This was a long time coming, guys. My little Hamilton Beach did its job for a few months, but just couldn’t stand up to snuff when it came to processing food. You see, for the past few months, every other time I’d use this bad boy, a chunk of plastic would go flying off onto the floor or into my food.

Why I waited so long to replace it is lost on me. But that point is moot now, because it’s been replaced!

See ya lata, plastic dispenser!

Although it seems like I use my food processor at least 3 times a week, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to make with it yesterday – I just knew I wanted to try it out. One thing a food processor is a pro at making is nut butter, so I ended up going with that.

Honey almond butter and honey peanut butter.

This is my go-to flavor when making my own nut butter, and is really rather simple

Honey Nut Butter

-2 c. roasted, unsalted nuts of choice

-1 tsp. sea salt

-1 tbsp. canola oil

-1 tsp. vanilla extract

-drizzle of honey – to taste

Place the nuts and salt in the food processor and pulse until it starts to “butterfy,” then add the rest of the ingredients. You’ll end up processing the mixture for a good 5 minutes before it reaches a good consistency.

I love a little bit of honey flavor in peanut & almond butter! Maple is really yummy, too.

Little tastes of almond butter eventually became my lunch, and Shane didn’t eat lunch either, so around 3:30 when he asked if I was hungry I was more than happy to play elderly and have the early bird special!

Shane cooked hot dogs on the grill while I fried up sweet potato fries. Just kidding. I fired up the oven, and put the pre-seasoned Alexia sweet potato fries inside to cook Winking smile

Salads on the side.

We hadn’t had hot dogs in a really long time, and it made me feel like I was a kid on summer vacation! Applegate makes really tasty hot dogs, believe it or not.

Then we both passed out while reading on the couch. I caught Shane just barely hanging on to his tablet, haha.

And then I had dessert at 7:00, and found myself heading to bed at 8:30…I was wiped for hardly doing anything that day.

This Morning

I think having such a relaxing day yesterday helped me wake up with a little extra pep in my step today. Not deciding quite what I was going to do yet, I made a double batch of mocha frappucino protein shakes for Shane and me:

…and then stuck my portion back in the fridge, because I had the urge to get in a workout.

Grey skies and showers put a damper on my desire to lace up my running shoes, so instead I’m heading upstairs for a little yoga.

Time to get my om on! Then start my day. Have a good Monday, friends Smile

When’s the last time you had a hot dog?

  1. I use my processor probably 5 or 6 times a week. I ended up buying a 2nd, smaller one similar to that one you posted. Since I don’t eat meat, it’s been at least 20+ yrs since I’ve had a real hot dog. It’s probably been a year since I’ve had a veggie one actually.

  2. That recipe looks great! And, it’s simple! Thanks for sharing it!

I can’t remember the last time I had a hot dog!

  3. I cannot even remember that last time I had a pork or beef hot dog! I usually buy chicken sausages from Costco around this time of the year to make throughout the summer but we have not picked any up yet! I need to get on that.

  4. I was JUST talking to Jess @SSH about how, if I had a food processor, all the nut butter I would make would most definitely have honey involved. Glad to see great minds think alike. 😉

  5. I have been thinking (and lots of talking) about getting a food processor but always said ‘next time’ if I saw them while shopping. Those nut butter recipes and pictures have convinced me to finally breakdown and just get one since PB is one of my staples! If I can stop buying it out of the jar and make my own, even better! 😀

  6. I love getting new kitchen appliances – they always inspire me to make new creations! Your nut butters look amazing! Let’s see, I don’t eat red meat but I do get a craving every once in awhile for a turkey dog :)

    • I had a turkey dog while camping not too long ago…I couldn’t get past the taste of turkey! lol

  7. I can’t remember the last time I had a hot dog. I can’t even do the vegetarian ones since most of them are soy based. I love my food processor and would be lost without it! Looks like you got a good one!

  8. I can’t wait until my blender breaks, that’s the day I’m going to buy a food processor. I think I had a turkey hot dog like 4 years ago, but a real hot dog? No idea, probably not since I was little. I never was a huge fan though. I’m a hamburger gal.

  9. I have a Cuisinart food processor as well and it is SO worth the money! Also, hot dogs+fries+salad…yum, that’s the next meal I’m having outside (you know, once this freakin’ rain stops).
