Valentine’s Day Convert + Our Love Story

Happy Valentine’s Day! Red heart

OK, so I’ve never been super about Valentine’s Day for a few reasons:

  1. I think we should celebrate love every day
  2. It’s become WAY too commercialized
  3. Too much pressure on young relationships – how much is too much? how much is not enough?

However, now that I’ve been with the same man for nearly 9 years (oh. my. God.) I can’t complain about getting some special gifts in the smack dab middle of the most dreary month of the year (in Illinois, that is.)

Plus, I kinda like the guy Winking smile

I guess you could say I’m coming around on Valentine’s Day.

Heck, I even themed it up for breakfast this morning!

Breakfast

Banana Strawberry split breakfast parfait! Except this time I layered it up in a bowl and made a heart shape.

Feelin’ the love Red heart

Before I indulged in the breakfast above, I indulged in a little treadmill action. I haven’t done a HIIT workout in a hot minute, and I brought back the 1-2-3 interval workout. It was tough! But good Smile

Our Love Story

In the name of love, I thought I’d finish off this post will a little romantic survey. I saw the “Our Love Story” link up over on Madeline’s blog and thought it was such a cute idea with some great questions.

image

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?

It will be 9 years on March 2nd. Wow. That’s insane. I think I’ll probably have a heart attack when we hit 10 years. Then I’ll officially be OLD.

2. How did you meet? {What’s your "love" story?}

I met Shane when I was 17 (turned 18 a couple weeks later) and he was 21. Honestly, this was both of our “party phases” of our lives. Naturally, we met at a party. Our first kiss was drunken. I was a wild child at this point in my life. It was a wild time in both our lives and neither one thought it was going to last! I was going off to college that summer, and we thought it was just a fling. Then we started to like each other more… and more and fell more in love Smile

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? {do tell}

We’ve been married for about 3.5 years.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?  If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?

We got married on a small beach in Florida on Casey Key. It was a small wedding with our family and closest friends. It was the best wedding we could have ever imagined. It was magical.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!

We don’t really have any super cutesy ones. We stick to the usual “babe, baby, baby doll (for him to call me,) sweet heart, etc.” However, we do sometimes improvise based on what series we’re watching at the time some how lol

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.

1) He let’s me be myself. We both have completely separate identities as well as an identity as a couple.

2) He’s his own person. Although some of his…quirks…annoy me at times, it’s what helped me fall in love with him. He’s such an individual and I’ve never met anyone like Shane.

3) He treats me like a princess. I’m not talking flowers every day or whisking me off to a tropical vacation every other month, but more that he always treats me with with respect and with love.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?

Shane had just gotten me Clarabelle as a graduation from college present (after telling me there’d be no pets allowed in his house that I’d just moved into Winking smile. )I had been volunteering at Big Brother’s Big Sisters at the time, and was coming home from one of my meetings with my “little.” I walked in the door to see him on one knee and Clarabelle at his side. He tried to attach the ring to Clarabelle somehow, but that plan failed, so she was just in the presence Smile

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?

Hmm…he’s done both! If I had to choose one, it’d probably be the latter, though.

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

I’m more of a movie and couch girl. But if we lived on/near a beach, that’d change in a heartbeat! It’s not as magical watching the sun set over corn fields Winking smile

2005 flashback!

10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?

Probably overseas to Germany and Sweden. I come from a strong line of Swedish men and women in my family, and he comes from a long line of German men in his. It’d be…something else to see that history!

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day.

I think Shane’s taking me to a steakhouse. We also have some little, fun gifts to give each other.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?

Nope! We never do any huge gifts for V-day. My birthday and our dating anniversary is next month, so we just celebrate V-day by hanging out usually – and chocolate. Always chocolate Smile

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.

It helps if the man you love is also your best friend.

14.  Show us a picture of what love means to you.

My mom and dad have been married nearly 50 years, and still love each other so much and have so much fun together. If my marriage turns out to be anything like theirs, I’d call it a success.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!! If you’d like to participate in the “Our Love Story” link up, click here. There’s one for both taken and single ladies Smile

I am lame when it comes to Vday and I’m just not really that into it, we typically just go all out on our anniversary!

  8. Thanks for sharing your story :)
I love the picture of your parents. The only reason I believe in true love is because of my parents. They have known each other since they were 13 and they are truly best friends and partners for life. I have been with my boyfriend for 4.5 years and we love each other very very much. I am excited for what will come in the near future for us. Happy V Day!

  10. I love reading more about your relationship with Shane and how you two met! Scott and I have been married for almost EIGHT years, together for 10+ years and seriously, I can’t even fathom that it’s already been that long (also helps that we married young, I was only 24), but STILL! He truly is my best friend as well – and we’re like you guys, we don’t really do much for vday, except use it as an excuse for a fun dinner date night-in together mid-week, which is just fine by me. Bring on the prosecco :) Happy vday my dear!
