Jump Rope Circuit Workout

A weekend of Mexican, Chinese takeout, brunch, and burgers made me wake up this morning wanting to start off the work week on a bit of a healthier note.

Thus almost immediately after waking up, I headed to out the door with one thing in mind: to kick some butt in the gym.

The last couple days have been all about the cardio (spin on Friday, short run yesterday,) so today I wanted to put some muscle in my workout. I still felt like sweating it out, so I turned to a circuit workout I created for a client just recently.

One sure fire way to get sweating? Jump rope.

Both my heart and my muscles were pumping after this workout. Open-mouthed smile  I also realized I’m no better at jump roping now than I was as a kid. I never made it far in those jump rope and hop scotch competitions in grade school!

I know some of the exercises aren’t common, and while I didn’t film any for this workout, here are some links for some clarification on some of them:

Stability Ball Ab Roll Out

Stability Ball Split Squats

X-band walks

I did, however, publish a new video workout to my youtube page. You can check it out here if you’d like!

Now I’m about to run over (by run I mean in my car, not by foot Winking smile) to a client’s house to train her, before coming back home to prepare for the rest of the day.

Breakfast is, yet again, eaten in transit:

Just your basic strawberry banana protein smoothie – topped off with some almond meal, which I stirred in before adding a straw. It provided a yummy, nutty flavor to the smoothie Smile

I have to admit, I am not feelin’ today. Not sure what it is, but I’m definitely dragging…hope I didn’t catch Shane’s cold finally!

Have a great day, guys Smile

Were you a good jump roper as a kid? Double dutch, anyone?

Your smoothie looks delicious :) I usually have a green monster that I will bring with me in the morning and my husband says it looks like baby vomit; so yours is very more visually appealing!

I was awesome at jump rope when I was younger, but I’ve realized that my body can’t quite compete with my elementary school body/energy level :)

  2. I wasn’t the best jump roper as a kid, but I did really enjoy it! I used to tie one end to the basketball hoop pole and talk my mom or dad in holding the other end while I practiced my jumping :-)

  3. I lvoed jump roping as a kid!

  4. I just read that jumping rope is the best overall body toner/calorie burner! It’s so fun but trying to do it other than skipping around the driveway is actually pretty intense!!

    The protein smoothie looks AWESOME!

  5. I haven’t really picked up a jump rope since elementary school when we did Jump Rope for Heart. A program where kids are encouraged to jump rope for their health. I think I just might have to try it again. I remember I could cross the rope and jump pretty fast 😉

  6. ostrich! i want to try! yum. looks good. and i need to get back on the jump rope train, it’s such a great workout. you know what else i loved as a kid? CHINESE JUMPROPE!

  7. That workout looks great! I can’t wait to try it once I get this stitch out of my leg!

  8. Love jumping rope and incorporating it into workouts! Great circuit, Paige. It’s funny you said you’d run over to a client’s house…One day last winter I didn’t have a car and did exactly that! Got up early, ran 6 miles to her house, trained her, and ran six miles home as the sun was rising. I only did it once but felt so bad ass! 😉 I made it a body weight-only workout; normally I have so many weights or pieces of equipment that there’s no way I could run. 😉

Do you train house-to-house or out of a gym? Both? You might have a post about it already; you can direct me there if you want instead. :) Just curious. Have a healthy, happy Monday!

  9. I was an awesome jump-roper as a kid. I used to do the “Jump Rope For Heart” fundraiser in elementary school where you would jump on and off for an extended period of time to raise money for the American Heart Association. I was much better at it as a kid- my legs were shorter.
My trainer made me jump with a big, huge thick rope a few times. That was not awesome.

  10. I enjoy the workouts you share – thank-you!
Could you share the recipe for this smoothie? It looks delicious!!

  11. Nice kick butt workout! Nothing better than starting your week off on the right foot! I loved jumping rope as a kid and I could double dutch, but I wouldn’t dare do it now. I would end up on the floor!

  12. that is one crazy workout! can’t wait to try!

  13. I loved jump rope as a kid- it filled up grade school recesses, evenings and weekends… I should really get back in it…
Also, awesome workout video, I can’t wait to try it! I love things I can do at home when I know I’m not going to make it to the gym.

PS. your arms look fab in that video girl! 😛
