Cure for Nose Bleeds

Every single winter, around January, Shane gets pretty bad nose bleeds. Nose bleeds seem to be one of those PITA’s that you don’t really know what causes them, but when they happen, you gotta act fast. Same thing with migraines (which he also gets fairly frequently.) I’m lucky that I get neither.

However, turns out he’s found the cure to nose bleeds.

Bacon? Yes, bacon.

I was just as surprised as you are that this wasn’t just his man response that bacon cures all…he had proof!

I received an email yesterday afternoon from the hubby with link to this article
saying that bacon has shown to stop nose bleeds.

I’ve expressed my rocky relationship with bacon before and why I don’t like to cook it all that often, but for dinner last night, I took one for the team.

BFD – bacon style.

In usual Paige style, my busy night dinner was breakfast for dinner, included eggs ‘n veggies (avocado, broccoli, spinach,) grapefruit, and – you guessed it – bacon.

He didn’t go so far as to stick the bacon up his nose (Lord help us all) but was satisfied that simply eating it would suffice Winking smile

Workout + Breakfast

This morning I woke up (without an alarm clock – hooray!) and headed to the gym for some steady state cardio. I’ve mentioned before I like to include at least one day a week of steady state cardio if for nothing else, then to increase my activity levels and get in some enjoyment – specifically in the form of endorphins and leisure reading:

I am STILL reading 11/22/63. It is LONG.

Back home, I made some Noats for breakfast:

What are noats? Noats=No oats. I based it off of this recipe but made a few changes:

¼ c. almond flour (TJ’s) or almonds
¼ c. pecans
1 scoop protein powder (Sun Warrior Vanilla)
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 egg
½ banana
½ c. frozen raspberries for topping
Milk to thin it out

Place nuts in food processor or blender and pulse until they turn into a flour-like consistency. Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse to combine. Scoop everything into a bowl, including the raspberries and microwave for 1 minute. Add a couple tbsp. of milk to thin it out and microwave again for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

This tasted SO good, and I’ll be making it again. And again and again. 😀

Also, just to clarify: I am NOT going “paleo” or “low carb.” For dessert last night I had nearly half a bag of this popcorn. Sinful. Delicious. Carby. If I go longer than 12 hours without a starchy carb I get stabby. No seriously, I can feel my mood levels dropping. I simply like to experiment for one, and two – I love nuts and fat-heavy meals every now and then.

Last day at the office for the week – woo hoo! Happy Thriday!! I’m also picking up a special visitor tonight at the train station. That’s right, Destiny is visiting this weekend. So excited…watch out for some debauchery Winking smile

Do you get nosebleeds? Migraines?

  1. I love that you say without carbs you get stabby. ME TOO. Also if I don’t eat soon enough between meals without a snack… Poor boyfriend of mine sometimes. Haha he can go an entire day without eating and then have a big dinner and be fine, but I would be in pain and have a headache and be in a really bad mood!

  2. Oh man, looks like I may have to start eating bacon haha. I get nosebleeds rather often! Your breakfast looks so tasty :D. Happy Thursday!

  3. I know quite a few peeps who get nosebleeds this time of year due to the dry weather. Luckily, this isn’t an issue for me. But yes- the migraines are an unfortunate occurence for me. And they’ve been coming more regularly. Which is not fun. Grrr.

  4. So weird, my husband and I were just talking about nose bleeds and migraines yesterday. He gets bad nose bleeds in the dry weather and I get migraines but year round. We both decided that at least we didn’t don’t get both! I feel for your hubby though!
I tried your paleo cereal with a grated apple this week – it was soo good!

    • Awesmoe! Glad you liked it.
I know, I feel so bad for him, but I know I can’t do anything to help! Excpet make bacon? lol

  5. I must say, that is pretty impressive about the pork nasal packing. I get migraines ALL THE TIME. They are horrific. I’ve found a decent drug combo that helps, but I wish they would put Darvocet back on the market…I never had heart murmurs when I took it…and it worked really well for migraines with a cup of joe.

  6. I don’t get nosebleeds or migraines, really. I get some really bad dry skin in the wintertime. My friends who get frequent nose bleeds in the cold weather swear by vaseline.

  7. I’ve never had (knock on wood) a nose bleed or a migraine. Doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some bacon too:) I’ve made a version of paleo oatmeal with eggs and nuts buy I am goof to try you version with protein powder!

  8. Hahaha no one ever say they’re going low-carb. Just trust me.

The Noats look interesting! I’d be game to try this. Is the 1/4 of pecans necessary? I have everything BUT the almond flour (decided to put my $$ toward coconut flour instead) and pecans.

    • Ha! :) Not too much longer though, right?
You could probably just use ~1/2 c. of the almond flour. Just make sure to stir it a couple times while you’re microwaving so you don’t fully bake it.

  9. I don’t get nosebleeds but I’d happily eat some bacon to prevent them from possible happening 😉

  10. Migraines run in my family and luckily I dodged getting that gene, but my sister and dad suffer from them, sometimes getting them as frequently as once or twice a month (or brought on by stress). They are on a prescription medication that they must take as soon as they start getting symptoms, otherwise they’re laid up for 2 – 3 days at a time.
My dad also gets bad nosebleeds, sometimes lasting 45 minutes or so and some have needed medical attention. I’ll have to tell him about the bacon cure. I’m sure he’ll love it!

  11. I get nosebleeds all the time – I have ever since I was little. Guess I might have to try the bacon thing :-)

  12. I’ve heard about the bacon-nosebleed cure, too. But it grosses me out! I can’t imagine I’d try it…

  13. Those noats look delicious. Plus, I am a huge fan of smooshing two words together to make one. Kudos!

  14. I just started that book a few days ago! You are right, it is flippen long haha, how is it so far? I am only about 50 pages in so can’t tell yet

  1. […] Noats! Pumpkin noats, to be specific. I won’t give the recipe because the other kind were way, way yummier. These were tasty, but not that tasty […]
