This morning at the gym I came face to face with one realm of lifting that has given me anxiety for quite some time: Olympic lifts.
You may remember me saying that crossfit was still a workout that intimidates me a little. Well, I’m to the point where I’d love to try it, but now I’m just not ready to shell out $$$ to join a crossfit box.
Next best? Learning some of the Olympic lifts (crossfit often practices Olympic lifts in its workouts.)
When I headed to the gym today, I formed a plan in my mind:
- warm up 5 min jog, 1 mile sprint
- dynamic warm up
- 40 minutes in the weight room doing the following
- deadlifts
- worked on my clean
- chin ups
- Romanian deadlift
- worked on my snatch (uhhh)
- HIIT for 10 minutes on treadmill, 5 min cool down
Great grand wonderful! (name that movie
)
I had so much fun experimenting in the weight room trying out some new lifts. I definitely went very conservative on my weight since I hadn’t incorporated two of the lifts into my workouts regularly. And I’m on a HIIT kick lately, so that was fun, too
WOD Generator
After my workout, I was surfing around the internet and found a pretty cool tool – the WOD (workout of the day) generator.
If you’re experienced in Olympic lifts and crossfit, the WOD generator generates hundreds of different xfit type workouts to try. (Obviously check with a dr. and crossfit instructor or trainer before trying any new exercise.)
Here are some of the oly lifts I want to get better at:
Don’t you just love the names of Olympic lifts? Snatch, jerk, clean…sounds dirty!
Breakfast
After sweating it out in the gym, I came home to a delicious and yogurt-y breakfast:
In this bowl, I have a heaping spoonful of Greek yogurt, ~1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1 tsp. honey, 1 tbsp. chia seeds, pom arils, and some almond meal
This combo never gets old.
Time to get ready for work!
Have you incorporated anything new into your workouts lately?

I have a guy friend who does something like this online. It’s kind of cool because at least you know you’ll never get bored with a monotonous routine… probably something I should look into… ha
I’ve done a couple of body rock workouts recently that are new to me (and incredibly hard.)
Love Zuzana!
I’ve started using the spin bike @ the gym and loving it! There is a screen attached that can guide your workout [or watch TV]- so cool! Almost feels like an amusement park ride
Awesome job trying out the olympic lifts! I’ve never done that, but I probably should try it. Maybe I’ll make my bf do some with me over winter break
. And you are so right…the names of the moves totally sound dirty haha. I’ve been trying to incorporate more plyos into my strength training workouts!
A workout generator?! How cool. I will have to check it out. I’m forever getting bored with my workouts. The newest addition to my workout arsenal is a kettlebell!
It’s pretty cool! Looks to have both quick workouts and more lengthy ones.
I think pom arils make everything better!
The WOD Generator looks so cool! That would be amazing for my lazy, I-don’t-want-to-think-when-I’m-at-the-gym self.
