Winter Gym Production

As I was layering up to head to the gym this morning, I realized that going to the gym is really a production. I have my pre-gym production down to a science. It goes like this:

  1. Drink cup of coffee while checking and responding to email.
  2. Make BCAA drink while changing into gym clothes.
  3. Now, here’s when I noticed it became a production – put on second layer of gym clothes before putting on coat to act as a “sweat barrier.”

I don’t know about you, but when I get done with my workout, I’m red faced, hot, and sweaty all over (what am I!?) I don’t want my gross sweaty arms, back, or legs getting my winter coat all sweaty and gross. So, I layer up with clothes that I don’t care if they get sweaty. Namely, these are long sleeved race t-shirts.

side note: does anyone else’s dog (and cat!) lay on anything you lay out on the bed? Surely Niko could find another comfy spot on this not-yet-made bed:

Anyway.

When I step in the house after getting back from the gym, the “barrier clothes” go directly into the dirty laundry, and my coat is still fresh and clean. It’s my system!

Today’s workout was power yoga, which was no joke! I’m having trouble getting to an actual class…I’m just not feeling it. I dunno what it is. Maybe the monotony of the same routine over and over and over?  So, I sweated it out upstairs in the workout room via MTV Power Yoga.

After power yoga, I layered up and took Niko on about a 30 minute walk. Then back home – and out of my sweat barrier clothes – I got ready for the day.

I must have overestimated the time I had (surprise, surprise) so I had to hurry!

Breakfast

As such, breakfast was eaten on the go.

I had about ½ c. left in this Chobani container, to which I added pumpkin, cottage cheese, cinnamon, chia seeds, stevia, and currants, and a spoonful of almond butter. The usual. And for the record, I love eating while driving. I know they say it’s best to eat slowly and while sitting at a table with nothing on, but oh well Smile

  1. My dog not only insists on laying on any clothes on my bed, she’ll un-make the bed from the top to snuggle under the covers. She gives me the dirtiest look if I tell her to move.

    I’m already over this whole taking 10 minutes to dress/undress layers. OVER it.

    If Ginger was allowed on the bed, I bet she’d do the same because if I drop something on the floor out of the dryer, she’s on it in like 2 seconds flat.

  4. It’s rainy here today, so instead of doing the whole gym production thing with the kids, we’re staying in to do a BodyRock! just not worth it to get wet.

  5. Oh I love having a sweaty clothes barrier…I absolutely hate putting my coat on top of my sweaty body haha. And my cat doesn’t like to lay on my clothes but she likes to jump in any drawer that I open while I’m getting ready!

  6. I feel a lot more scattered with my routine in the winter as I am not usually training for anything. It’s refreshing yet overwhelming at the same time (isn’t that silly!). I am hoping to set a weight routine to stick to starting in the New Year. … and I hate eating in the car. I love food too much and would rather sit down and enjoy it :)

  7. I eat and drive on a daily basis. Sometimes twice daily.

    I miss yoga. That is all.

  8. Niko loves you! And your smell :-) My dogs actually pull my dirt clothes out from my hamper when I forget to close the bedroom door.
    I’m still perfecting my morning pre gym routine. It can take a surprisingly long time if it’s not mapped out!

    And, yes, the kitties lay on anything that is laid it — folding laundry is rather annoying when they are around :)

  10. I like eating in the car too because I’m a huge multi-tasker and it feels really efficient to do it. But I always try to make it foods that don’t crumb, because I hate having crumbs all over my lap and car seat.

  11. Roosevelt likes to make a little nest for himself in any clothes I lay out. This is why I have dog hair on me at all times. *Sigh* As for gym prep, I usually have a barrier layer, too!

  12. When it’s cold, I have old sweatshirts that I throw on over my gym clothes since they’re already nasty. It’s so much easier getting out the door when the weather is nice!

  13. My parents’ cats LOVE to lay on my parents freshly cleaned laundry. Never fails. :-)

  14. Since I grew up in Florida my winter gym routine and summer gym routine were exactly the same, but now that I’m in England I definitely understand what you’re talking about! Since we walk to our gym we have to reaaaallly bundle up. I wear my work out capris under a pair of Dave’s work out pants, tons of top layers, a scarf and my special gym coat that’s allowed to get all sweaty :p oh the things we do to get in a work out!
