Gym Routines

When I was leaving the gym after doing a lifting workout today, I realized something: I am definitely a business-only gym-goer. I showed up, filled up my water bottle, changed shoes, and jumped on a bike. After I finished my cool down, I changed back into my other shoes, and headed straight out the door. This type of routine isn’t uncommon for me.

Depending on what’s on tap for the day’s workout, I’ll head to one of the two gyms I go to. No matter which I go to – the one for classes or the one for running and lifting, my “gym routine” is quite similar  in each one – minimalistic.

I’m very much a get-in-get-out-get-on-my-way type -  I don’t like to spend any extra time in the gym when it comes to my workout. I realize not everyone’s like this. Some people like to change at the gym, chat up the front desk, and hang out until class begins. Although that’s not my style, I get it.

What I don’t get, however, is the people who spend 3 hours in the gym – only 45 minutes of which is an actual workout. When I worked out at Gold’s it was the worst. I remember being on the elliptical (it was basically all I did at the time – I was intimidated of everything in the gym back then) and looking around thinking that it was more of a bar-like atmosphere than a gym.

I quit not much later just because – among other reasons – that’s not my style at all. It just made me feel weird being there!

Breakfast

Breakfast is on the go today! Actually, it will be eaten at my desk, since I’ve got to head into the office early today for a meeting. However, it’s just the same breakfast cooked the same way as yesterday:

1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1/2 banana, 1/3 c. pumpkin 1/2 c. oats, 1/2 c. milk, cinnamon + stevia, currants. This time I also added a little almond butter!  Not necessarily in that order, though.

I’ll probably eat this around 10. It’s my fave combo lately Open-mouthed smile

Annnd I’m out! Got a full day at the office and a couple clients to train afterward. Tuesday doozy-day! Hope your day is great Smile

  1. I’m the same way – I get in and get out. I just don’t have any desire to hang around and chat. I’d rather get home, shower and put on some pjs. ;)

  2. Get in and get out for sure! I usually go after work so staying much past one hour means a 8pm supper. I do not understand people that go there and chat for 2 hours and workout for maybe 30 mins, there are a lot at my gym too! I keep my iPod in so people are less likely to chat with me ;) haha Seems snobby but I just go to the gym to workout and not to socialize.

    • I don’t think it’s snobby at all! I think it’s ap olite way to let people know you’re not there for chit chat :)

  3. I’m with ya girlfriend. I like to get in and get out. I don’t get how people just hang out at the gym.

  4. I’m an in and out kind of girl. People always talk about how the gym is a good place to meet people and I never really understood why until I joined my last one. It’s like happy hour with protein shakes instead of drinks. Not my thing.

  5. I am a ‘get in or get out’ type of gym goer! When I used to go to the gym every morning, I went in already dressed, hopped on the treadmill, did my weights, and headed out the door!

  6. I totally know what you mean in all of this. I’m the same way you are – I get in and get out as quickly as I can. I used to go to Gold’s as well, and you’re SO right, it’s similar to a “bar atmosphere.” People are showing off, flirting it up, etc. It’s actually kind of entertaining sometimes!

  7. The 3 hours at the gym always confounds me. That said, I love going to the gym partially as a social outlet. I’d say some days I’m business oriented, and other days I’m a bit more social. Last year I belonged to a Planet Fitness, and really missed the community aspect I had growing up going to a YMCA.

  8. I am so with you. I have no time to be bothered with small talk and chit chat. I like to get it over with- like ripping off a band aid.

  9. I feel the same way about the gym. For example, if I have a class that starts at 8am, I will be on the elliptical until 7:59am waiting for the class to start because I hate standing around wasting time. I never talk to anyone and like to fill up every second with workout so I can leave ASAP! I don’t think I’d enjoy the Gold’s atmosphere though I’ve never been there so I can’t say for sure!

  10. I am a get in and get out type of gym goer also. I get off work between 8 and 10 each night and go to the gym after work. I don’t have time to socialize. I want to get my work out done as quickly has possible so I can get home to shower and be with my husband and puppy. :)

    A girl I work with always talks about the people she meets at the gym and friends that she makes. As much as I am anti-social at my gym – I am a little jealous of the people that she meets. I don’t see her as the type to waste much time while she is there, but she seems to make friends at the same time.

  11. I know what you mean. I’m generally follow an all-business routine as well. It works for me.

  12. I agree with the “get in get out” gym type. Personally, I prefer to work out outside, if at all possible, although I know sometimes that just doesn’t work due to weather or other factors.

  13. I’m so with you on this! I’m not social at all when I go to a gym or do a workout, but I just don’t want to spend more time there than I have to. I remember when I used to be a regular, it seemed like everyone on the machine next to me wanted to have a conversation. I’m sorry, but I’m there to get my sweat on and get out. And if I can carry on a full conversation comfortably, I’m not working hard enough. Gotta love headphones for keeping people aways!

  14. Well, I don’t go to the gym but I am like you. I get on with it, finish and then it’s over. No time to waist.
