Bread Cake French Toast
In my head, I said Baudu Panne what-o? But then saw the words “specialty cake” and opted in
Still, I wasn’t sure quite what to expect, and when I received the cakes, I was quite surprised to see two large premade “cakes!” One was a dried fruit cake, and the other a chocolate chip loaf.
I say “cakes” because these specialty cakes are more like dense, chewy, sweet, airy bread. Think raisin bread on crack. But 10 x’s more delicious.
Actually, when I pulled the first loaf out from the box, I called to Shane – “Shane! What does this bread smell like??” He said Panera, but my first thought was holiday bread…with a lemony (??) scent, which is A-OK in my book.
I had a feeling this cake wouldn’t last long just setting on the counter calling my name, so instead I used half the loaf to make French toast for Shane for breakfast.
Though it was a little crumbly to slice, it made the perfect French toast bread. Shane said the rum flavor in the cake really popped after cooking on the stove.
I love how quick and easy French toast is to make, yet is thought of as a quintessential breakfast for a relaxing, lazy, weekend morning.
And for us, today was nothing, if not relaxing. It went a little something like this:
Do a load of laundry—>reward self with coffee—>clean the counters—>reward self with breakfast—>swiff floors—>reward self with Niko walk—>finish laundry—>reward self with lunch:
It’s quite a lovely cycle, don’t you think? By the way, this is lunch. I’m back on the kale salad kick again. It’s just my favorite green to eat with salads! This one had a bunch of kale massaged in olive oil, then tossed in lemon juice and sea salt, 1 grated carrot, a handful of raw cashews, goat cheese, and pickled beets. Yumminess.
The only chore left is to mop the floors. But first, another reward:
full fat Fage Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and some blueberries.
