HLS: The Conclusion
Hey there! I’m currently blogging from 20,000 feet above ground, on flight from Atlanta to Bloomington! Although my first connecting flight had free wifi (whoot whoot!) this one, sadly, does not, so I thought I’d spend some quality time on Live Writer
Yesterday the presentations came to a close, my brain was beginning to reach fried status. The roomie and I headed back up to our room to straight up veg for a good 2 hours, before finally mustering up some motivation to shower and head out.
We hit up Sampan, a tapas restaurant on the happenin’ 13th street close to the hotel for tapas and cocktails.
It has a really fun and modern atmosphere in it, and everyone sat pretty close together – better for sharing, I presume
I loved that they had a vegetarian menu to offer, too.
To start, I ordered a delicious drink called a chambord spritzer. I am a HUGE fan of chambord, so when I saw the cocktail that boasted this raspberyy liquor goodness, chardonnay, and club soda, I immediately ordered it.
Mmmm I will definitely be recreating this at home!
Tapas are meant to be shared, so we ended up sharing a bit of everything we ordered! We started with a tasty tangy salad.
And followed it up with pad thai and some roasted broccoli with pine nuts.
Everything was SO delicious at Sampan. I wish Bloomington/Normal had a restaurant like it!
We left Sampan after dinner, but weren’t ready to call it a night. After a slight mix up regarding a lost cell phone, we found ourselves at Tutti Fruitti, which I whole heartedly declared the best froyo place I’ve ever been.
Of course, we sampled a few flavors before making a commitment, but in the end I decided on an oddly delicious flavor, taro, as well as an old favorite – cake batter
I couldn’t believe how good the taro flavor tasted. It had a slightly nutty flavor, slightly resembling a pistacchio, but a sweetness that wasn’t obvious. It contrasted – and complimented – the birthday cake flavor well. I topped everything with sprinkles and brownie crumbles. Go big or go home, eh?
Go home, we did not. After finishing up the sweet treats, I was on a quest to drink a Yuengling beer.
Quest=conquered I see what all the hype’s about now! I hope they sell it at Friar Tuck – the largest liquor store in town here.
We headed to bed at an hour past my bedtime, but somehow, I managed to make the 5k fun run this morning. I literally rolled out of bed with 10 minutes until they took off, and then found myself changing into running clothes and meeting the fun run gang in the lobby.
We ended up walking to the Rocky Stairs (!!) and then running up them. On the way back, a group of us turned the walk into a run, for a quick 1.5 mile sweat. It felt good to get my heart rate up. It was the first time I worked out all weekend!
I LOVE running with bloggers
Now I’m back in Normal, and although I’d like one more day before it’s time to live in reality again, it’ll be nice to get back in the “Normal” routine
Have a good night, all!!
What did you do this weekend?
