Went out to eat a lot on Memorial Day weekend

I got my Real World om on

At 5:00 pm yesterday, I’d yet to venture outside with the exception of training a couple clients in the morning. I even got all dressed up in a sundress, only to find that our plans fell through. So, I changed back to my comfies and poured some wine!

Shane always says things to make me laugh when taking my picture!!

Oh well! Shane and I made the most of it by playing some Tiger Woods on PS3…ok fine, Shane played, and then told me everything I was doing wrong when I tried to play. Then we resorted to a game I’m most definitely good at – euchre!

Once evening hit, we took grilling out into our own hands. It was really a quick, easy, and successful dinner!

Salmon (with a dijon + tamari + garlic marinade,) steamed green beans, boiled sweet corn, and a potato cooked on the grill.

Sweet corn was the highlight! Shane had the same, minus the salmon, plus two burgers.

And because our epic Memorial Day turned out to be pretty lame (which we all know is OK with me!) I’m going to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon and post my ABC Foodie Survey that’s been circulating the blog world. Specifically, I’ve seen it on my girls Janetha, Lisa, and Tina’s blogs Smile

A is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety? Honeycrisp, duh! What can I say, I can’t resist a large, crunchy, juicy fruit.

B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of? I was tempted to say a grainy, seedy, chewy bread…which honestly IS one of my favorite. However, my most favorite is probably a nice herby piece of focaccia with some olive oil and parmesan to dip it Smile Of course I always love Great Harvest breads, too.

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!) I’m a sucker for Kashi cereals. Right now it’s probably Heart to Heart, but I love Good Friends, too!

D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy? This is kind of like the bread question. I always say I like cake donuts the best, and they’re the ones I always go for (well, tbh I eat donuts probably twice a year, they’re not my fav option) but my all time favorite are jelly filled with powdered sugar on top. Smile

E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared? I love my sunny side up, over easy, over medium – basically any way that the yolk can run over to my toast! However more recently, I’ve been enjoying eggs in tortillas!

F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product? Hmm..I don’t think I eat many fat free products? How about fruit, does that count? We’ll go with strawberries Winking smile

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at? Kroger, Wal-Mart, Meijer, Fresh Market, Aldi, and Trader Joe’s when I get the chance!

H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink? Oh gosh, this is easy. Coffeeee! I could never give up my coffee.

I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping. Cookies and Cream fo’ life! Or to answer correctly, vanilla, with oreos mixed in and topped Winking smile

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor? I do sometimes and I only like the jams with little bits of fruit in them.

K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product? Hey…didn’t I answer this question already? Nyah-Nyah

L: is for Lunch, what was yours today? Well, I haven’t had lunch yet today. However, yesterday I have to admit it wasn’t a great lunch. I just snacked on crackers and veggies and hummus and some tortilla chips and guac. It was a snacky kind of day Winking smile

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack? You will find out this afternoon when I post the recipe I created over the weekend. And. I’m. Obsessed.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best? Uhhh all? Actually I probably enjoy the taste of carbs and fats most. The proteins mainly there because I know I need it to build muscles and stay full and…you know, function and what not.

O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use? Mainly canola oil, but I’ll use olive oil if the taste doesn’t conflict with the taste of what I’m cooking, ya know?

P: is for protein, how do you get yours? hehe, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, nut butters, dairy (Greek yogurt, cottage cheese,) eggs, protein powder…fish sometimes.

Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats? Currently? Inside a pancake batterSmile Usually? Cooked, with a little milk, fruit, flax, and Greek yogurt.

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast? Ooh, probably sweet potato rounds! They turn out so caramel-y and delicious Smile

S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind? I’m actually not a huge fan of sandwiches! I guess I love a good Jimmy John’s veggie sandwich on whole grain?

T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling? I relax about it a little bit, while packing plenty of snacks to get me through long days of travel and in case emergency snacks. I wrote a post a while back on staying healthy while traveling and it covers this too.

U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos? If you ask my husband, he’d say most, but I’m pretty sure not too many of them would sound too weird to you guys Winking smile I’ll really eat anything in a combo though. And I’ll eat it cold from the fridge even if it’s supposed to be warm. One time I ate a container of brussells, sweet potato rounds, and almond butter straight from the fridge. Yum!

V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take? I just talked about this in the what supplements I take and why post! B vitamin, Magnesium lactate, magnesia phos.

W: is for wasabi, yay or nay? Yay!! There’s a fine line between loving it and having just a wee bit too much that I hate it, though.

X: is for XRAY. if we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see? The meal I posted above…plus a little vino Winking smile

Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood? Haha…umm cinnamon raisin toast, minute steaks, boxed mashed potatoes, hamburger helper, and fruit…lots and lots of fruit.

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it? I love sauteeing it in a little olive oil and using it for the bed of the main dish! And of course I also love it in bread.

Well it’s time to go put in a day’s work. We’ll see how productive I am though…I barely got five hours of sleep last night and was up at 5:00 am (I couldn’t believe it when my alarm clock went off…) to train a client.

  1. My favorite type of apple is Golden Delicious. Scrambled eggs remind me when I was younger but recently my favorite way to eat eggs is hard boiled in a salad. Though I have had a lot of amazing sandwiches, I am going to have to say peanut butter banana is still my fav – another childhood food!

  2. I had corn twice this weekend and both times it was outstanding! Hate when the corn is all mealy or just not sweet.
    My fav apple is honey crisp which are pretty easy to come by in NY thankfully :)

  3. I had a pretty laid back Memorial Day, too. But it’s ok- a day of rest is worth it. :) And grilling is never a bad thing…

  4. My fav apple is McIntosh. I love love love omelets.:) My fav sandwich right now( i go through phases) is ezekiel bread, avocado, tomato slices, fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic.

  5. My Memorial Day weekend was pretty low key, but the grilled dinner always makes up for that! Veggies on the grill are my favorite.

    I quit making instant mashed potatoes when you heckled me a few years back:-) No more hamburger helper either, but I’m still a big fruit lover. Did you know that bananas and potatoes have lots of good carbs that burn fat?!!! (according to Rachel Ray Show guest today, THE HIGH CARB DIET)
