Shake Off the Stress

Action, action, action! Can you guess what the theme of my Sunday was? I definitely got my fair share of physical activity in for the day 😀
After my morning run, I trained a few clients (while doing several exercises along with,) and came back to clean the home front. We had gorgeous weather yet again yesterday – it reached 80 – so I simply had to spend the rest of the day outside…doing dead lifts!
Shane suggested we get started cleaning up the front landscape, so we headed to the hardware store to pick up 10 (heavy bags of mulch.) Then, we dead lifted them into his truck, out of his truck (bend at the knees, not the back! 😉 ) and onto the beds.
Now all we need to do is get some pretty filler flowers for the year!
Later, I took Niko for about a 45 minute walk which left us both pooped.
With this gorgeous weather we had, it’d be blasphemous not to grill out. During the summer, Shane and I grill out probably 3-4 times per week. Hey, it’s the only season where Shane cooks – ever – so I take full advantage 😉
Aside from the grill catching on fire (could have been bad!!) it turned out to be a lovely meal:
Quinoa + sweet potato veggie burger (I froze them so I could pull one out on nights like last night!) oven roasted okra – SO GOOD, and green beans + baby bellas w/ parmesan which I made with my new rice cooker!! I’m kind of obsessed with it now. It can do everything!
Parmesan Crusted Okra
1/4 c. panko bread crumbs
1/4 c. parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp salt + pepper
2 c. okra, whole
2 tbsp olive oil
Preheat oven to 425 (I used convection bake.) In a small bowl, combine the break crumbs, parm, and s+ p. In a larger bowl, toss the okra with the olive oil. Add the bread crumb mixture and toss to coat. Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes.
The rest of the night, we kicked it on the couch and watched Dexter. And it’s official – I’m obsessed.

Take a load off! It’s Monday, the start of a new work week! I thought I’d share with you some tactics I practice to shake off work-related stress throughout the week. Reduce work related stress with a few simple practices:
- Focus on the task at hand. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when looking at the ever-growing pile of work to get done for the entire day. Pick a task to work on, and force any noncritical distractions out.
- Talk it out. It’s easy to miscommunicate at work (and at home) with all of the different media outlets. Whether it’s through email, IM, phone, or face to face, make sure to ask if you aren’t 100% certain what the person you’re communicating with mean.
- Walk if off. This is especially important if you work in an office and are glued to your desk all day. It’s helpful to take a few breaks throughout the day to clear your head and get your blood flowing. Walk up a few flights of stairs or around the building for about 10 minutes to shake off the stress of the day.
