Keep Calm + Think Palm Trees, and a Workout for You

Morning! Today’s my first day back at the BIC, so I’m moving very cautiously this morning. Although I brought my laptop home, I never once opened it. Since I had so much going on in the fitness gig yesterday, I didn’t want the stress of an overflowing inbox to get the best of me.

So the game plan for today, is to give everything a few seconds to sink in before I react. I’m a big react-er. I tend to react right on the spot instead of stepping back and thinking about it. But today…that’s my goal :) Oh, and also to keep calm and think palm trees 😉

Last night’s Biggest Loser Initial Weigh In was a huge success! I had a great turnout of people that signed up, and it was really great talking to each of them about their goals and what their history was. To say I’m super pumped for them is an understatement 😀 The prizes are pretty legendary, too!!

After weighing the participants in, I trained a client and came home to make dinner – and eggplant pasta dish! (I’ll be posting the recipe later today.)

Before I left for the gym, I roasted some eggplant, so the rest was super simple for me to do when I got home.


This dish was 100% vegetarian, and both Shane and I LOVED it.


I couldn’t believe it when Shane kept going up for seconds and thirds! He’s usually not a huge fan of eggplant. The sauce I made was delicious.

However, the dessert was what I’d been waiting for allll day…BIRTHDAY cake!

Shane had gotten me a birthday cake Sunday for my birthday, but after the bread pudding, we wanted nothing to do with it. So why not extend the celebration?


Good enough reason for me! The cake was just from Kroger…but they make a darn tasty cake!!




Try this tri-set!

This is the double tri-set I did a couple times while in Punta Cana. You go through the first set of exercises, moving directly from one exercise to the next, completing 10 reps of each set. Complete the “1” exercises three times through, rest, and then do the same for the second set of exercises. It took me about a half hour and I was BEAT. Efficient is the name of the game for this workout 😉

Remember to ask your doctor before beginning any new exercise program!

1a) Dumbbell Clean and Press (emphasize the squats a bit more for a bigger burn)

1b) Army Crawl + Pushup combo (in a plank position, bring one knee to the outside of the same side elbow, then the other, then do a push up. repeat for 10 reps)

1c) Jump Squats

—-two minutes rest—-

2a) Stationary Lunge + Lateral Raise (use a light weight for the raise; 10 on one leg, 10 on other)

2b) Stiff Leg Dumbbell Deadlift w/ Double Row

2c) Lunge jumps (20 total)


And I’m off! After working at the BIC, I’m training a couple new clients afterwards. :) Busy Tuesday!

Do you always have birthday cake on your birthday? I feel like birthdays just aren’t complete if there’s no cake involved! 😛

  1. It’s definitely a good idea to ease back into the real world after a long vacation! Keeping the stress-free attitude beyond the vacation is part of the reason why we go in the first place! :)

    My mom used to always make me a cake on my birthday when I was little, but the last couple of years I haven’t had one. I think celebrations are much more about the people you’re with than the cake. 😉

  2. Birthdays are definitely not complete without some bday cake! Unless my mom makes a homemade cake, we all eat a slice of the way-too-big store-bought cake, and then my dad picks it up and “accidentally” drops the remains into the kitchen sink amidst the protests of my siblings and me. He just doesn’t want us eating unhealthy cake for days. Goofy, but I kinda like the tradition of it :)

  4. Great little set! I RARELY do anything but swim, bike and run. I have been telling myself for so long that I need do some strength. I might just make today my day to start using your little set :)

  5. A packed inbox after vacation is the worst! Breathing and taking your time as your work through it is TOTALLY key! Josh doesn’t like eggplant either :( But that pasta dish looks awesome. I’m not a big cake fan- I prefer crisps/crumbles or frozen yogurt/ice cream for my bday!

  6. I had to do the same thing when we got back from Florida and pictured the beach to calm me down at work. Hope you overcome the stress!

    That dish looks fantastic. I love eggplant.

    And yes, a birthday without cake is no fun. I think I didn’t have one for my 30th last year and I was kind of bummed in the end. I should have bought myself an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen or something.

  7. At my age, I can skip a cake on my birthday, but I love imagining myself on a wonderful trail during a rough spin class. The idea was my spin instructor’s; the chosen place, Casey Key Road, was my idea.
